Summer is in full swing and so is the heat. With looking for ways to cool off we often find ourselves near bodies of water and pining after those who reserved the prefect shady spots. With a non existent budget for those fancy pop up beach tents, I searched for a solution that wouldn't take that many tools to make or kill the tiny tiny budget I saved up for all these extra family fun days. What you need at the store: Total of Two pvc pipes 1-inch 10 ft long (at the store have them cut each of 10ft pipes into a 6ft and 4ft piece) Total of Two pvc pipe elbows 1 inch Total of Three pvc pipe coupling 1 inch Total of Two .5 inch x 2ft rebar 1 tarp or tent rain fly Rope 8 Tent stakes I had a tarp/tent rain fly and tent stakes and rope so my total came to $13.46 with tax. You could easily use an old shower curtain, water proof table cloth or plastic sheet to cut down on the cost. Leaving the store you should have two 4ft pieces and two 6ft pieces of the pvc pipe. All the tools that you will need are a hack saw, measuring tape and a marker. If you had the make the cuts at the store, all work you need to do is: First take the two 6ft pieces and mark each pipe and 3ft and cut. Giving you four 3ft pieces. (Making this cut will just making transporting it in a car easier than trying to fit in 6ft pipes.) Connect the pieces,( I numbered them for easily assembly at the beach). IF you are using a tarp, now is the time to attach rope to each of the tarp grommets, believe me this will save you a lot of time at the beach. Make them long as you can always wrap them around your stakes. At the Beach Set Up
We used our picnic basket to carry in our towels and water safety vests but it was also useful for a picnic table. We found that the tent was prefect for our camping chairs to fit under and our cooler and we even had room to play in the sand under the cool canopy. The sides allowed air to flow in and it was great shade and even privacy on a crowed beach.
