Nothing Hurts worse than other people comments about what they think about your parenting skills. Especially, when you are a young mother pretty much raising two energetic children alone because your hubby is busy with his education and working to provide for his family. Do people recognize this? Most certainly not! They are most likely just concerned with how you are effecting their day as you find yourself in their path. DON'T LET THEM RUIN YOUR DAY! My little man has a great memory. He knows where the donuts are in every store we have EVER passed by the bakery section or bought donuts from. The same goes for matchbox cars, ice cream, and chicken nuggets. Sometimes his great memory helps mommy a lot. I forget that I promised a snack, playground time or that I would get him more juice. So he helps me remember. Yet at the same time it is not so great. He thinks he needs something and will even tell you where you can locate it in the store. Explaining to a three year old that he can't always have what he wants is like talking to a fish underwater. You speak different languages, have different attention spans and most of all a lack of patience for each others answers. I have learned that I have to explain everything, recognize his feelings and give two choices. Remaining consistent even when it is most embarrassing is hard. SO hard. Especially when you are at the doctors office, standing in line, church, or a restaurant. I have had to learn to pick and know my battles grounds. Yet again people won't see the tired circles under your eyes because of your teething baby. They won't see that you just needed to run to the store to pick up milk and bread because your are out AGAIN, because your son refuses to eat anything but peanut butter and honey sandwiches. They won't see that you once again have wet hair and no make up because you knew that you had to hurry to get back for Little Lady to get a morning nap before playgroup at the park. No, they don't see. Being a spouse of a student as well as a parent is often a one person show. A exhausting show! The jobs of cooking, cleaning, shopping, budgeting/finance, car maintenance, raising children, and preparing for the future all rests with you. Why? Because your sweet spouse needs all the time to study so that they can successfully get a career for their family. Is this a complaint post? No. It is a plea for those with hurtful comments at the store, the bank or even at church, to keep it to themselves. We are just trying to keep our heads above water and your not helping.
