I was in the mood to CREATE. Do something for me, something I enjoy. Ever get in one of those moods? I do and I find that they take the monotony out of everyday motherhood chores. Really at this point I feel like a robot doing the same thing day in and day out. Dishes, laundry, meals, preschool and so on....right? Feel the same? So what your outlet? Secretly wishing to be a interior decorator I sat in my bathroom hiding from my children's whining and fighting and thought of things that I could create. (And yes I do frequently hide in the bathroom and preferably with a stash of chocolate or my one weakness root beer...) The picture of above is of the decor in the bathroom if you don't believe me. Any way this particular desire to create has occurred for three weekends in a row now and I decided that it was time to do something about it. Off to the thrift store I went children with snack bags in tow, to find the makings of spring or green wreath. I found a pink blossom garland wrapped/morphed into a ever ending circle and a cute metal decor bin with spring flowers already inside. I purchased both for $3.12! In my mind I still wanted a green boxwood wreath, the kind you see in every Pinterest farmhouse picture...not finding anything like that at the thrift store went to my local craft store and found a garland for 7.99 that was prefect for what I had in mind. Making this project a total of a little over $12 for three final products. Using the boxwood garland I wired it to my newly formed wreath base made out of the blossom grape vine. Pulling off more pink blossoms that somehow managed to hide from the previous attempt to pull them off to add them to the wreath pictured below. The best part is that I kept the flowers I cut out to place on my welcome bench outside (when it gets warmer to hopefully inspire some green to come back to the lawn and trees). The tulips are really sun faded but a little left over spray paint can brighten them back up with little expense. What do you think three decor wreaths and extra leftover bench decor items for a little over $12 (got to count tax)? Another Wreath Project....I love LAVENDER! No really I lOVE it. When I saw these almost real looking flake lavender bundles at hobby lobby I envisioned this wreath. This was not a cheap wreath ( cost be about $27, I bought two bundles of lavender and one of cotton) like the one above. BUT I wanted to show you it because you can cut down the cost on making any wreath by creating your own base and using coupons to gather your flowers or cotton. Bases can be make out of any vine like tree branches or pool noodles or foam rings. The best thing to do for using live tree branches is form them while "green" and letting them dry in the shape you want. If they are going to be outside use the cheapest materials you can find, that way any weather damage or sun fading doesn't break your heart. I just shoved the lavender end in to the grape vine base, while I wired the cotton on where I wanted it. The BEST advice I can give to making a wreath look good is to DON'T be uniform. Nature does have patterns but isn't always uniform and prefect. Go for a texture look and you will be a lot happier with the outcome.
