The joy of summer is in full swing and I am in over my head with dirty clothes and laundry. The small clothes are starting to get bigger which makes me sad. So I am learning to enjoy it while I can, because I already miss it.
This project came from a desire to change a sign I had previously, that broke during the move. I wanted to keep with the Farmhouse decor style but wanted something that was my own. I couldn't bring myself to paint on my original wash board, so I MADE one! Using a hand saw (powered by yours truly), tin cutters, a glue gun, rubber mallet and white paint, I worked away. Proof that you don't need expensive tools for projects. Being in school just means you have to get creative and maybe even scrounge up some materials. I took photos of the process and made a tutorial for YOU to create your own piece.
I didn't spend anything on this project, I used old barn wood, metal and left over white paint that are around me. But if you do end to the store or find pieces that aren't barn wood look you can use Amanda's Tutorial on how to get wood to look like Barn wood.
Using one inch thick barn wood, I measured 18 inches long and cut.
These are the long sides of the washboard and you will need two of them.
Next is the Top board, is 8 1/2 inches of the same one inch thick barnwood. See my blue toe nail polish and flip flop feet...I really did create it.
The next is the bottom board and inside board that is 7.4 inches long.
Here is what the Frame looks like with all the pieces that I made cuts for in the pictures above.
Next I went and found corrugated metal piece that was here at the farm house. Measured out 7 inches across and 1ft long (because of all the lettering I wanted on my sign).
I took my hammer and pounded it flat so that it would be easier to paint the wording on.
Next came all the glue! This took time as I had to hold all the pieces until the glue set.
Here is a picture of that inside 7.4 piece I mentioned above. I liked the look of this wood so I used it as a front decorative piece.
I used this font and letter for my sign and included a pdf. for you to download! I used a white paint and did spray clear plastic spray over to water proof it.
The Final Product is....
What do you think? We would love to see your projects and share inspiration.
