A nerve racking day turned even worse.
The day of the test arrived. Hubby J had to travel out of state to the nearest testing center offering the MCAT, leaving me and the kids alone for an entire weekend (that turned out to be a zoo like experience itself). He had packed a lunch with snacks and was rightfully nervous about the task ahead but to add to the confusion he was on an unfamiliar campus.
The last break of the test he noticed that his wallet, lunch box and phone were taken. Talk about lack of focus now! He called me from his sisters cell phone (thank goodness she lived in the area) and I began to quickly close down accounts and started making arrangements for a replacement phone. Of course it had to happened on a weekend, making it more difficult to notify the bank. That night I got no sleep. I was totally stressed about the added costs, worry that our accounts would get hacked before I could close them and anger because the silly location in which the Hubby J placed his belongings in the first place. We went to church and as I was sitting in the bench, thinking of the horrible events of the weekend. My phone buzzed and I saw there was a text message from a number I did not know. A lady who had loaned her brother a lunch box to take the MCAT, shared that by accident my husbands belongings had been picked up. WHAT? Could this be happening? Was this for real?
We continued to text back and forth. I didn't get much out of the service because I was busy texting and wrestling two children to stay on the bench. But in the back of my mind I was worried that it might not be sincere. I mean she wanted my address. Was she wanting more information to open an account in our names? My mind was screaming identity theft. Then I thought she had been texting me information as well. I had her name and I now had her number. And I allowed myself to hope, that their were good people left in the world.
When I relayed the text to my hubby when he returned home, his whole demeanor changed. He too was hopeful. To our delight just as the lady promised the package arrive and everything was returned! By then I had already canceled cards and the bank account just for added safety but I was so overjoyed. I texted this back: The package arrive today! I just wanted to again say thank you for sending it back. We are so happy and overjoyed that there are still good honest people in this world just trying to do what it right. Thank you. Thank you. To which she replied: You are most welcome. I am just sorry that the honest mistake happened in the first place. Hubby J thinks he might want to retake the test again, without the extra stress of having your wallet and lunch box taken. Even though it almost kills me to spend another $300 for the test, it will be worth it to try again. This time leaving his things with his WIFE. hehe
