Oh the frenzy of finding an internship! The journey of putting in a lot of applications and hoping to catch a good match. Having just come out of this process ourselves and thankfully blessed with great offers here are some tips or advice if you will, that will make things easier. So before you pull out the ironing board or polish your shoes, take a quick look at these 6 simple suggestions. 1. Boost your resume, practice your interview skills and make a list of things you want out of an internship. Include housing (if you need it), location and length of the internship. 2. Research and gather information. This will not only help you with your interview questions but you will be more educated to make decisions. Putting out applications after research takes time but if you can't rock in interviews because you don't know anything about the company, your back to filling out more applications. What are the companies values? Do they offer a leadership development program? What level of education do they require? What is their stock price? Current issues that they face? Are they international? Do they have unions? 3. Create a separate email folder for all the incoming emails from all those applications and their statuses that are coming your way. Be sure to check your spam folder for things that might slip by. 4. Keep your head up and keep fishing if nothing happens right away. You are your biggest cheer leader and seller. Don't give up. Hard to sell yourself to a company if you start to doubt yourself. 5. Fill out this spread sheet to help you keep track of all the applications, companies and hopefully offers. Then put this spreadsheet on google docs, so you can share it and change it or add to it constantly. 6. Keep an open mind! Remember this is an internship, The end goal is AWESOME experience, resume boosting opportunities and great connections.
